Have conservatives been captured?
Most intellectuals are liberals of one style or another. So much so that it's viable to speak of liberalism as being the received belief of the novel West. Professor John Gray recognises this when he writes that,

Professor Alasdair MacIntyre puts it this way,
Current debates within fresh political systems are about exclusively between right liberals, latitudinarian liberals, and underlying liberals. There is insufficient place in such partisan systems for the evaluation of the system itself, that is, for putting liberalism in beyond consideration. (Whose Fairness? Whose rationality?)

What we see today in mainstream statecraft is a captured conservatism, just as Grinder wanted it to be, one that is unfit to supply a principled other side competing to liberalism.
